Playing the guitar although fun, can also be quite challenging for kids. However, having the right electric or acoustic guitar can make a big difference. Before we move further, please note these are not “toy guitars”.
The guitars featured here although meant for kids, are the real thing.
Just half the size mostly (Around 30 inches or so).
When it comes to kids learning how to play the guitar, they can definitely learn on a full-size acoustic guitar but why not give them something that fits a little better and is softer on the fingers right?
That’s why an acoustic guitar (Classical) is better than a standard acoustic guitar for kids. The only difference is the strings (Tuning is the same). Classical acoustic guitars use nylon strings (Way easier on the fingers) and an acoustic guitar comes with the steel ones.
We feature both types but just wanted to make sure you understood the difference.
Most parents who would like their kids to try a guitar, sometimes start off with a ukulele.
Just because it’s smaller, has nylon strings too and well . . . it’s awesome.
However, the downside is the chords on the ukulele are completely different than on an acoustic guitar. Also a ukulele has 4 strings vs the 6 strings on a standard acoustic guitar.
Plus other differences such as size, string types, etc. Both are great but at the end, it’s up to you how you want your kids to get into playing stringed instruments.
Just keep in mind that if they jump from a ukulele to an acoustic guitar for kids, they have to unlearn pretty much everything and start all over.
So yeah, something to keep in mind.
Anyways, let’s have a look at some of the best kids acoustic guitars out there today.
CNBLUE Acoustic Guitar For Kids
This is a great quality guitar for kids but my only concern is it has steel strings. I prefer that kids start off with nylon strings or something softer.
If that’s not an issue for you, then this CNBLUE classic comes with a nice waterproof guitar bag as well. That’s pretty neat eh?
Overall, the guitar sounds great and it’s just another shoe in for anyone looking for a nice guitar for their little boy or girl.
PS: This is the only steel string acoustic guitar here. The rest are nylon aka classical acoustic. It’s the same thing as we mentioned earlier. The only difference is the strings on a classical are nylon vs steel strings on an acoustic guitar. The tuning is the same so no worries.
Pyle 30” Classical Junior Guitar

This guitar is one of the favorites right now for parents because it just works for their kids. First, the build is quite solid, the sound is pretty good to most and it comes with a guitar strap as well.
As far as value goes, a lot of people have great things to say about this one. Pyle in our opinion has always been a family brand and to see them make guitars for kids is even more appreciated. Good stuff Pyle.

If color isn’t an issue (We love pink!), this is another great package by the CNBlue team. It comes with a protective guitar bag as well. Pretty much the same thing as the one above but with a different color. For first timers, this is a good product. At least that’s what the majority says.

Loog Acoustic Guitar For Children
- The ideal first guitar for children ages 3+.
- Award-winning 3-string design allows for an easier and faster learning process. With the Loog Mini, kids feel rewarded...
- Approved by educators: Learn on a Loog, play any guitar.
Okay now you’re talking quality. Loog has somewhat re-invented the kids acoustic guitar genre by introducing these super hip little guitars for kids. Some consider this the best guitar for a 6 year old. Isn’t that something? Looks electric (Kids like that look more I guess) but is an acoustic guitar with nylon strings.
Loog guitars come fully assembled (At least this one) and have been a huge hit with the kids since they started producing these. Regrettably, there has been some shipping issues so we really hope the Loog crew gets on the ball quickly. As these guitars are super fun for most kids.
Yamaha JR1 Junior Acoustic Guitar
- The FG Junior is a 3/4 sized guitar modeled after the acclaimed Yamaha FG Series
- The JR1 has a smaller body and shorter neck, perfect for young players or those with smaller hands
- Yamaha craftsmanship and a spruce top give this compact guitar an authentic acoustic tone
Now if you’re looking for some serious baller guitar for your kid, you can’t go wrong with Yamaha. The JR1 Junior Acoustic Guitar by Yamaha is basically as good as it gets. If you want you kid to have the best thing on the market, this what’s considered by most as the ‘Rolls Royce’ of kids acoustic guitars.
Now of course your child can learn on any decent guitars that we’ve featured here but if brand names are important to you, you just can’t beat a Yamaha. Great sound and everything as expected but we’re disappointed in on thing.
It doesn’t come with a hard case, but with just another gig bag.
You know what, if you’re making musical instruments for kids, a hard case should be mandatory. Don’t you think?
Hohner Accordions Classical Guitar For Kids
- Sturdy Build Quaility
- Easy Playablity with Nylon Strings
- 1/2 Sized Classical Guitar
Not necessarily the best name for a guitar making company but it does the job nicely. Kids absolutely love it and despite some haters, this is actually a real instrument. Or we wouldn’t have featured it here. Nice construction overall but there have been some complaints about it breaking after a few days. Could have been a bad batch but just something you should know. We suggest in these cases, it’s best to ask about the shipping and handling procedures of these kids guitars.
Masterplay 30” Wooden Kids Acoustic Guitar
- PRIME PACKAGE you get a whole guitar package you get a strap to hold the guitar on your shoulder than you get extra set...
This all wooden guitar is a pretty solid hit with the kids (Most of them at least). What’s not to like?
It comes with a whole bunch of accessories, has a professional finish to it and since it’s all wood, your little troublemaker can drop it a few times as well without hurting it.
We do recommend that you learn how to use a tuner because in some case, this guitar may need to be tuned properly.
